Pug Hugs & Goat Therapy
Dear Dungarees,
Our baby goats have arrived! Much like motherhood, even though I knew they were coming I didn't feel ready. Doubting my ability to be a goat mom is ever present, nevertheless, we're jumping in headfirst!
Anabelle, a 6-month-old goat girl from the best show stock, and Gandalf, a 7-week-old bottle-fed baby boy goat, are the newest additions to the farm. This is the first time we have bottle-fed a goat, and oddly there's a science to it. To prepare my heart and mind for these babies I did what I always do….research. Farm research is challenging because no two farmers do things alike. In addition to HOW we bottle feed, WHAT we bottle feed is just as critical. We must concoct a super secret goat formula to feed our bottle baby. It seems everyone who does this sort of thing has a different recipe and a different feeding schedule. And they all hold merit. I have no opinion or idea what I’m doing, so I'm going with what our goat lady said. *Flings months of research out the window*
We love our baby goats beyond what we thought was possible and can’t get enough of all the animals on the farm. Pug hugs and goat therapy are always in style here. I don’t know if our goats love us as much as we love them, but I honestly don’t know what we did before they were a part of our lives. My franz.
What about the llama you say? There is always the overarching transformative presence of Francesca to discuss. Our glorious llama who I hope to win the heart of someday. Today is not that day. She made sure I knew that first thing this morning as she snubbed me in the barn. Outwardly she acts like a mean girl but I think she secretly can’t wait to be my bestie. Same, sister. Same.
As I hang with the goats, I'm so grateful for new farmy clothes that keep me warm. Here, business clothes won't do. So many things are different now. Once upon a time, our entryway contained a lovely rug, a delicate table, a lamp, and framed art. Now our entryway is overflowing with overalls, Carhartts, goat bottles, hats, bins of gloves, and countless pairs of hearty work boots. Like farm pixie dust, there is also just the right amount of straw and hay scattered around. There's something so inviting about it. Come visit anytime. I’ve got some extra overalls you can wear.
