The In Between
Dear Dungarees,
Here is a timeline of events.
January 23,2021 We first looked at a magnificent property/farm and fell in love.
Feb 2, 2021 We put in an offer for the farm that was accepted and signed. This offer was contingent on both my parents and our house selling.
Both our houses sold within 2 weeks. So here we are. Our houses have sold but we don’t officially take possession of our farm for another few weeks. The timeline in selling and buying rarely line up to be exact.
March 10, 2021 We moved into an in between house. We are all very thankful. We are now expectantly waiting for the next step.
Move to farm...undefined date. Could be two weeks, could be 2 months.
At this in between place we are able to process, dream, plan, and take a much needed break. These last few weeks have been a whirlwind! The plans taking shape in this interim consist of a remodel to the small main house and 2nd house, pigs, a cow or 2, fainting goats, wedding venue possibilities, more research on liabilities for the business side of things, the purchase of a retro camper for guest quarters and many many other pieces that are so exciting my heart is beating harder just typing this!
I am so SO thankful to our people who have come together to celebrate new beginnings and hold our hands and hearts as we say goodbye to yesterday, wave to our old dreams, and our beautiful homes we have sold, and be present to dream new dreams with us. Here are a few pictures along the way.
First trip to see the property. Up by the barn and Greenhouse
First family farm meeting came to order. We unanimously decided on the name Expedition Overalls for our website. Fine Farmer made a Trello board to organize our thoughts, hopes, and dreams. Dad crunched numbers. Me and mom cracked inappropriate jokes. Bug the farm pug sat around being not slim.
Second visit to the property. More dreams. More love. More direction.
I bought goats. My friend Leah brought some over for a play date. These are not my goats. But I love them like they are my own. Apparently, I am in love with all things pertaining to
Nigerian Dwarf goats.
We bought goat girl aprons (from a seamstress friend Judy who is amazing) since we will be farming all the goats. Mom bought her first pair of overalls in 4 decades.
We packed. We loaded. We moved to the in between house.
We officially sold our houses (that’s my mom and dad e-signing the sale of their home like a couple of young kids!). Fine Farmer and I closed on our house. We have the best realtor/friend to help orchestrate all the crazy pieces.
I cleaned our sold house the night before the new owners took possession and took one last photo of the rooms as a remembrance.
After cleaning, in the middle of my old living room, I sat thanking Jesus for our life here.
I thanked the house for being the foundational safe space we raised our 7 babies in and thanked it for all the memories we will cherish and take with us wherever we go. Onward!
